Pop Rocker "PINK" Performs Free in NYC for Breast Cancer Research

Pink is returning to the stage for a benefit for breast cancer research, a cause which has long associated itself with her color namesake. The singer's free show at New York's South Street Seaport on September 30 will be opened by DJ Laurent and Butch Walker, one of the producers on her new album. "If fame is good for one thing, it's that it gets people's attention," Pink said. "And when what you are talking about is as serious as the fight to cure breast cancer, I can't think of a better way to express myself." Concertgoers can raise funds for the cause by buying pink-themed products, including bracelets, baseball caps and compilation CDs (available online at
Target.com/breastcancer
) with profits benefiting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. icon

Study Finds Digital Mammograms Better For Younger Women

Great news for younger women (under 50) concerned about breast cancer, particularly those with a family history. A recent study has proved that Digital Mammograms are better in several aspects, including less exposure to Xrays and radiation during regular testing, meaning women can be tested much earlier with less risk.

From MedicalNews Today: "A study of about 50,000 American women found that digital mammograms are 15-28% better at spotting breast cancer in women under the age of 50 than standard film technology. Most under fifties have not yet experienced the menopause, their breasts are denser. The researchers said the two technologies were pretty similar when detecting cancers in older women.

Dr Etta Pisano of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, who led the study said that as younger women have denser breasts, their scans are harder to interpret in great detail. When tumours do appear in younger women they tend to be the more aggressive ones and have a higher mortality rate."
