Pink Product of the Day set to Return!

Here at the Breast Cancer Bracelets blog - we're getting ready for our second annual PINK PRODUCT OF THE DAY campaign! Every day during October 2007, National Breast Cancer Awareness month, we'll feature a cool pink product that gives back to breast cancer research. Of course, we do feature many pink ribbon products year round, but during October, we ratchet up the fight against breast cancer.

Nicole Kidman Launches Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign at Madame Tussaud

Nicole Kidman said: "I am honoured to mark the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and launch Cancer Research UK’s breast cancer campaign.

"As someone whose family has personally been affected by the disease, I can't stress enough how important it is that women get to know and understand what is normal for their body. I hope that this Cancer Research UK campaign will raise awareness of breast cancer amongst women of all ages and encourage them to report any unusual changes and go for screening if they’re over 50. Together we will beat cancer."

Macy's Raises Research Dollars For Breast Cancer Awareness Month with Collection of Special Edition Products

In ongoing support of the fight against breast cancer, Macy's 2006 "For the Love of Her Life" program will once again raise dollars in September and October for The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF). The campaign will include contributions from the sale of limited edition Gund plush labradoodle dogs, a Gund plush teddy bear, and exclusive Frango(R) Pink Mint Chocolates.

"Finding a cure for breast cancer is a cause that is critically meaningful to our customers and employees," says Ronnie Taffet, Vice President, Macy's Corporate Marketing. "The 'For the Love of Her Life' program has been very successful in our stores over the last three years. Our customers respond enthusiastically to this cause, and their altruism and generosity resulted in $700,000 for BCRF in 2005. This year we're aiming even higher."

The limited edition breast cancer merchandise includes two Gund plush labradoodles, a Gund plush teddy bear, and Frango Pink Mint Chocolates.

The Gund plush labradoodle dogs will be sold in Macy's Cosmetics departments for $12, with $5.75 from each sale going to BCRF. The labradoodle comes in two colors: "Grace" in gold, and "Courage" in brown. Both wear bandannas printed with the pink ribbon and paw prints, and each dog features the pink ribbon symbol embroidered on one paw.

The Gund plush teddy bear will be sold throughout our stores for $12, with $4.25 from each sale going to BCRF. The "Hope" bear wears a pink hoodie and also features the pink ribbon embroidery on one paw.

Macy's will also carry exclusive, limited edition Frango Pink Mint Chocolates throughout the store for $8, with 50 cents going to BCRF. The mints come in a 1/3-pound box featuring a design by Miranda Moss, a Minneapolis artist and cancer survivor. These will be sold beginning in September through Mother's Day.

Fannie May(R) Candies Announces 'Support the Cause' PINK Campaign

Through October, Fannie May will donate 10 percent of the sales of its NEW Pink Drizzled Pixies®, Pink Mint Meltaways® and other PINK Confections to five local cancer organizations: Cancer Wellness Center in Northbrook, Gilda's Club Chicago, Jennifer S. Fallick Cancer Support Center in Homewood, Wellness House in Hinsdale, and Wellness Place in Palatine. The Centers provide resources and guidance free of charge for people who are dealing with cancer, to complement their medical care. Fannie May expects to donate up to $50,000 through this fundraiser, which will be matched dollar-for-dollar by a grant from the Chicago-based Coleman Foundation (http://www.colemanfoundation.org) for a potential donation to the Centers of up to $100,000, besting last year's $85,000 donation.

To drive awareness of the need for speed in researching a cure for breast cancer, VIVA(R) Towels and Brewco Motorsports are painting their No. 27 car in the NASCAR Busch Series bright pink. This VIVA Towels effort is part of their recent partnership with The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) as October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, approaches.

Everything VIVA will be colored pink, from the NASCAR, to the driver, Casey Atwood, to the entire pit crew. VIVA will also donate a minimum of $100,000 to BCRF and will host an online auction of NASCAR memorabilia with proceeds benefiting BCRF. Even VIVA Towels will sport special prints and pink packaging during October, designed to heighten consumer awareness

Marianne Faithfull Announces She Has Breast Cancer

Faithfull, who gained fame in the 1960s as the girlfriend of Mick Jagger, has postponed a world tour after being diagnosed with breast cancer, her London publicist said Thursday. Doctors in France, where Faithfull was diagnosed, say the cancer is in its earliest stages, said publicist Rob Partridge. Faithfull, 59, had been scheduled to begin a world tour next month, but it has been postponed until next year.

“I have absolute faith and confidence in my fantastic medical team, and of course I will be well again, if not better than ever,” the British singer-actress said in a statement.
