Pink Product of the Day - October 27th is National Slipper Day Too!

During the October 2007 Breast Cancer Awareness celebration, Dearfoams is taking things one step further.

The Dearfoams® Company has designed two “Pink Ribbon” slippers to benefit The Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation (www.makingmemories.org). The slippers will be on sale at Sears and other retailers as well as www.dearfoams.com beginning in September through November (while supplies last). The Company plans to make a minimum donation of $.50 to Making Memories for each pair of slippers sold.

The Dearfoams® Company has officially designated this day as Dearfoams® Slipper Day 2006. We hope you will get your employers excited to have some fun and join in the cause! When you make a $2 donation to the Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation (www.makingmemories.org) (through your Human Resources department) you may wear your slippers at work, and help to grant wishes to terminally ill breast cancer patients, their families and loved ones.

I started this blog (now moved to BreastCancerBracelets.org) because I have a family history of breast cancer. My maternal grandmother (a nurse) was first diagnosed with breast cancer at age 55, her treatment plan included a lumpectomy and radiation therapy, and she went into remission for over 10 years. At age 68, other cancers (including a brain tumor) were discovered, and she died just before her 70th birthday. My mother found a lump at age 47, followed a similar treatment plan, and has now been in remission for 6 years. I am a 31 year old healthy, active woman, but due to the history, have already had mammograms and ultrasounds done on suspect spots. Neither I nor my 24-yr old sister have been tested for the BRCA1 gene, but we both take this matter very seriously, and hope medical advances will continue to improve. I write this blog under M. Beth Parker, a form of my grandmother's maiden name, in her honor.
