Remembering Wendie Jo Sperber: A Personality Who Added Spark to Breast Cancer Awareness

The actress died on November 29, 2005 at the age of 46, after a long battle with breast cancer.

Wendie Jo Sperber became known for her role on "Bosom Buddies", the 1980's sitcom starring a then-unknown Tom Hanks and Peter Scholari, and went onto to have a successful film and television career.

After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 1997, Wendie Jo Sperber used her celebrity status and hollywood connections to build awareness and raise money for the cause, including her involvement in launching the breast cancer research Postal Stamp.

More importantly, Wendie Jo Sperber created weSPARK, a cancer support center in California dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for cancer patients, their families and friends.

Tom Hanks says of Wendie Jo, "The memory of Wendie Jo Sperber is that of a walking inspiration. She met the challenges of her illness with love, cheer, joy and altruism through weSPARK, and an unstoppable supply of Goodness. We are going to miss her as surely as we are all better for knowing her."
